Gmote Touch
What is Gmote Touch?
Gmote touch allows you to control your computer's mouse and keyboard from a distance. It's great for clicking a youtube video's full screen button or controlling the user interface of media center. Just slide your finger along the screen to move the computer's mouse in the same way that you would use a laptop touchpad. Flip open the phone to type on the keyboard to have those key strokes sent to the computer.
How do I access Gmote touch?
You can access Gmote Touch from most of the Gmote screens by pressing on android's MENU button and selecting Gmote Touch.
How do I left click?
To left click, tap the screen once. You can also left click by pressing down on the android trackball.
How do I double click?
To double click, tap the screen twice.
How do I right click?
To right click, simply press down on the screen for 2 seconds. This is referred to as 'long press'.
How do I drag and drop?
To drag and drop, move the mouse cursor over the object you want to move, and then press and hold down Android's trackball. While keeping the trackball held down, slide your finger on the screen to move the object to its desired location. Once there, release the trackball.
How can I scroll down or up easily?
Roll Android's trackball to scroll up or down in a window. You can think of the trackball as the wheel on a standard mouse.
How can I adjust the mouse sensitivity and acceleration?
To modify the sensitivity and acceleration settings, press Android's MENU button and select 'Settings'. Sensitivity allows you to control how far the computer's mouse will travel when you slide your finger along the screen. Acceleration helps you get from one side of the screen to the other with fewer movements.
Gmote touch is not working for me. What can I do?
There are a few scenarios where this could happen.
- Sending mouse clicks works, but moving the mouse doesn't work.
- If this is your case, it may be that your computer's firewall is blocking the default UDP port that the Gmote Server is listening on (the default is port 9901). You can visit http://www.gmote.org/faq for more information about firewall settings. Also, if there is an application that is conflicting with this port, you can change the port by Right Clicking on the Gmote Server icon, selecting Help, Show Settings and Logs folder. Modify the UDP_PORT variable in the file called default_settings.txt.
- Sending mouse clicks doesn't work, or you are getting connection errors.
- In this case, I suggest following the steps outlined at http://www.gmote.org/faq. There is a detailed section about handling connection issues.
How can I send 'alt' keys, or capital letters?
Simply HOLD DOWN the 'alt' key WHILE PRESSING the appropriate key on the keyboard at the same time. For example, holding down the alt key while pressing 2 will send an @ sign. For capital letters, hold down the 'shift key'.
PLEASE NOTE: Gmote Touch is still an experimental feature. The data it sends to the server is not encrypted. You should therefore NEVER SEND CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION such as passwords from the phone.
